I came to do what I love by a circuitous path. My first career was as a daily newspaper reporter. On a long-term feature-writing assignment in a first-grade classroom, I found my happy place at last. So I returned to school and earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Denver. This is my 18th year as a primary classroom teacher in the Denver Public Schools, and it’s fulfilled me like no other job. My adult son and daughter both attended DPS schools, and as a third-generation Denverite, so did I. My husband and I moved into our Congress Park home almost 30 years ago, and I’m thrilled to be finally working at my neighborhood school with its warm and welcoming staff, families and students.
