Dear Teller Families,
As part of our vision to enhance our HGT Magnet program, we are moving forward with some specific changes to better meet the needs of our high achieving mathematicians. Starting in the fall, students who demonstrate a mastery of their next grade level math standards will have the opportunity to accelerate one full year in math. This will be based on an advanced math assessment and parental permission. For example, a current 3rd grader, moving into 4th grade who demonstrates mastery of 4th grade math standards, would have the opportunity to accelerate into a 5th grade math class.
Details about this new math acceleration program will be shared at a community meeting hosted by the Gifted and Talented department. As soon as we know the exact time and location, we will get that information to you.
In the next few weeks, we will being testing students who are currently identified as HGT, GT, or Magnet Eligible. In the fall, we will be expanding the opportunity for students to take this assessment based on parent and teacher recommendations.
We are excited about this new opportunity to better meet the needs our students. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to reach out to the GT department at 720-423-2434.
Our 2017 Balarat field trip is just around the corner. I am writing you to learn about any medications that your child takes at home. As we will need doctor’s orders if you would like those medications to be given during this field trip. I have attached the general medication order that you can take to your child’s doctor. Keep in mind these need to be returned to the school as soon as possible with both your signature and your child’s medical provider’s signature. Should you have questions, feel free to contact me by phone or email.
