March 2009 Tellergram

From the Principal….

CSAP Testing in March for 3rd-5th Grade Students
Our 3rd graders completed their Reading CSAP test two weeks ago.  Students were focused and confident in themselves.  We did not have any absences during testing, either.  We are extremely proud of them and their hard work!
We are back at CSAP testing during the weeks of March 3-March 12.  All testing will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  3rd graders will take their Writing and Math tests, while our 4th and 5th graders will take Reading, Writing and Math.  5th graders will also take Science CSAP.  We need all students at school, on-time during our testing days.  Not only does this provide students the opportunity to test with peers in an organized testing environment, but also allows staff to get back to the regular school day schedule as quickly as possible once testing is over.  When students are absent during the regular testing schedule, staff members are pulled from their daily schedules to provide make-up sessions. This ultimately impacts all the students.

3rd Grade Testing Schedule

Tues. & Wed., March 3 &4  9:00-11:15
Tues. & Wed., March 10 & 11  9:00-11:15

4th Grade Testing Schedule

     9:00-11:15 and 1:30-3:15
Tues. & Wed., March 10 & 11
     9:00-11:15 and 1:30-3:15

5th Grade Testing Schedule

Tues.-Thurs., March 3-5
     9:00-11:15 and 1:30-3:15
 Tues. - Thurs., March 10-12
     9:00-11:15 and 1:30-3:15
We are confident that our students are ready to take these assessments, and we are continuing to work with them to build their confidence in their academic and test taking skills.  Please take the time to talk to your student to see if he or she is having any anxiety, as well as to encourage them to do their best.  Here are some tips to help support your child during testing:
  • Make sure your child attends school every day.  NO TARDIES please.
  • Do not schedule appointments or vacations during the testing window.
  • If your child becomes ill on a testing day, notify the school and we will set up a make-up time for your child.
  • Make sure your child gets 8-10 hours of sleep each night.
  • Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast on testing days.
  • Send a healthy snack with your child to eat in between tests.  Avoid sugary snacks like cookies and candy.
  • Make  your child’s life as stress-free as possible during the testing week.  Try to limit evening activities.
  • Expect your child to be tired during the testing week.
  • Offer them encouraging words before they leave for school, “Do your best, Read the directions, Answer all the questions, Make sure you check your work and YOU CAN DO IT!”
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to touch base with me or your child’s teachers.
Information about the 2009-2010 School Year - Thank you Parents and PTA for Your Continued Support!
I am happy to report that we have finalized the budget for the 2009-2010 school year and have worked out funding so we are able to staff our school so we are able to maintain manageable class sizes and continue our Linda-Mood Bell Reading intervention program.  It is going to be a tight year with limited funds available for unexpected spending and luxery needs, but we will certainly be able to continue to provide our students with a learning environment that fosters the growth of the whole child - social, emotional and academic.
Without the financial committment from our PTA for $60,000, we would not be afforded this opportunity.  While this seems like a lot of money at first glance, the rewards that we will see as we watch our students grow and learn will prove well worth the efforts it will take our community to raise this money.

The parents and community members are greatly appreciated by all at Teller.
