CSAP Assessments

CSAP Reading, Writing and Math Assessments of students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will take place between March 7th and March 16th.  These assessments will measure a student’s level of proficiency in reading, writing and math based on the standards established for each grade level by the State and the District.  On the CSAP, students need to construct written responses to some of the questions in reading and in math and be able to write cohesively on the given topic for writing.

As parents, you can help your child do their best on the CSAP assessments by:
  • Making sure they get plenty of sleep, at least 8-10 hours, and eat a good breakfast.
  • Making sure your child comes to school on time.
  • Scheduling Doctors’ and other appointments for after school on the testing days.
  • Talking to them about the CSAP test and telling them that you know they will do well on it.

Students should be in their classrooms by 9:00.  Students arriving at school after testing has begun in their classroom will have to stay in the office until the testing for the day has been completed.  Since all students are required to take the CSAP, any missed portions will have to be made up.  With your support and help, your child will approach the CSAP with a positive attitude.

Spaces are still available in our full-day kindergarten classes and in the ECE classes.  Scholarships are available to students of families that qualify financially.   Please stop by the office and my secretary, Ms. Lubin, will give you the application and forms that need to be filled out.

Blood Drive 2006:

Ms. Urbach Tells it All
by Natalie Torres

I had a fun time interviewing Ms. Urbach.  Now you can find out more about her.  Did you know her whole name is Joy Diana Urbach, and before she got married her last name was Goldwasser?  Ms. Urbach was born in St. Louis, Missouri.  She had two brothers.  She has been living in Colorado for about 33 years.  She told me, “The best thing about living in Colorado is the weather”.  When she was ten years old, she wanted to be an actress and a singer really badly.  She says she became a teacher because she loves to see kids when they have an “aha moment”.  She says the best thing about teaching is watching kids grow up.  Ms. Urbach likes to work in clay, go shopping and go out to eat for fun.  Her favorite book is really a series, The Chronicles of Narnia .  She says the most surprising thing about her is that she plays the autoharp.    I hope you enjoyed knowing all about Ms. Urbach.

All About Ms. Maniatis
by Dustin Paulek

Fifth grade teacher Athanasia Maria Maniatis (Nancy) says she loves to live in Colorado because of the blue sky, sunny days and that we have all four seasons, unlike Chicago.  When Ms. Maniatis was a little girl, she wanted to be a doctor.  She has two older brothers and was born in Denver, Colorado.  She says she would never want to live anywhere besides Denver.  Ms. Maniatis likes to entertain herself with bowling, watching hockey games, reading and she likes to rest at her cabin.  Her favorite book is Island of the Blue Dolphins.  Ms. Maniatis said that she loves fifth graders because she thinks they are honest and they make every day different.  In high school, Nancy Maniatis made it twice as a finalist in a National Speech Competition.  Well, that’s all about Ms. Maniatis.  How special is she!
Maniatis:
Ms. Gras
By Marisa Solano

Ms. Gras’ name is Mara Gras.  Her nickname was Sweetness, and she liked it. (Wouldn’t you?).  She was born in Denver, Colorado.  She has one brother,  one sister, and two dogs.  Ms. Gras has lived in Denver for 31 years, and she loves the weather, the mountains, the Broncos and her family.  When she was little, she wanted to be a marine biologist or a teacher.  She likes teaching because she likes seeing the kids’ faces when they learn something new.  For fun, Ms. Gras likes to walk her dogs, ski, watch football and spend time with her friends and family.  She also likes to cook.  Her favorite book is  The Da Vinci Code, because it reminds her of Europe. She has gone to Europe four times, and can speak French!  Ms. Gras has an exciting life, don’t you think?
