February 2009 Tellergram
From the Principal…..Greetings to all…February tends to always be a very busy month. The enrollment and staffing process takes place, third through fifth grade students gear up for CSAP and staff reviews mid-year student data to analyze individual student progress towards meeting the end of the year goals. Every year, Teller parents assist in making crucial decisions regarding budget and staffing for the upcoming school year. The CSC (Collaborative School Committee) looks at class size number projections, teacher allocations, reduction in staff and supplemental programs such as Reading Recovery, Challenge, and Lindamood Bell, etc. These decisions directly affect you and your child. All are invited to join the CSC Committee us on Tuesday, Feb 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the IMC to review the final budget allocations and offer final staffing suggestions. 3rd-5th Grade CSAP Testing – Staff and students have been working diligently all year to help prepare our students for the CSAP test. Please mark your calendars with the following dates for your child’s CSAP testing. We need all students here on testing dates, rested and focused. If you have any questions regarding the testing process, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me. ![]() CSAP Schedule3rd grade ReadingTuesday, Feb. 10 & Wednesday, Feb. 11 3rd-5th Reading, Writing & Math March 3, 4 & 5 March 10, 11 & 12 5th Graders take Science CSAP, too. I want to thank all of the parent volunteers who continue to work towards leveling all of our classroom libraries for the Accelerated Reader program. Our students and staff are so excited to begin familiarizing themselves on how this independent reading and reading comprehension program works. Without the support of our parents, we would not be able to meet our school wide, full implementation for February. Housekeeping IssuesAfter School Pick-Up – I need to offer a gentle reminder to all parents/guardians/care takers to please not park cars in front of the building while students are being dismissed for the day. We need the north bound lane to move continually so students can get quickly in the cars and room is made for the next car. Parking for individuals wanting to meet their students as they walk out of the building is available on 11th an 12th. Thank you in advance for helping us ensure a safe and smooth pick up process.Students in the hallways before school begins – Please remind your child that he or she should not go to their classrooms to hang up coats or back packs before school begins. We need students to go directly to the playground on outside days or to the Auditorium or Gym on inside days. Students need to walk to their classes with their classmates. Students wandering in the halls prior to school beginning presents a safety issue. Thank you for your support in this matter. Thank you to you all for supporting our students and staff and helping make Teller a great place for all. Sincerely, Jennifer Barton Principal Destination Imagination NewsWe have six DI teams this year at Teller. There are four primary teams called ‘Rising Stars’: The Verenians, The Rainbow Powers, Boddabing Boddabong and Electricity. Their challenge is called Hidden. Each team imagines what it would be like in a hidden place and writes a play about it. We have two elementary teams: Maximum Mucho Muscles, who are doing a challenge called ViDio Lit Hits, in which the team creates its own music video with lyrics, a character from literature, choreography, a Grand Entrance or Exit and two side trips. The Yorkie Starlighters are doing a challenge called Operation Cooperation, creating machines that help each other. All the teams are busily writing a script, building props and costumes, working on side trips that display individual team member’s talents and learning how to do all this as a team. The Tournament is on Saturday, March 14th at George Washington High School. The presentation times will be available before the Tournament so that you can go watch our teams in action! TOMORROW! Thank You for Letting Us Recycle Your Old Ink Cartridges! And the mystery of the blinking lightsLast year, funds from recycled cartridges allowed our secretaries, Misty and Denise, to purchase wireless headsets. This has been a great help for Misty and Denise, but we know that it can be difficult discerning if we are on the phone! So here’s the good news: This year, we have used funds from your recycled cartridges to purchase On-the-Phone indicators! If the small purple oval on our desk displays blinking red lights, this means we are on the phone. We may smile at you, but our ears are on call! COFFEE!!!You Gotta Have it!So, be sure to place your orders with Ms. Chris by Friday, January 30, 2009.
