Teller PTA News March 2009
PTA NEWSPTA Commits $60,000 to Teller Elementary in 2009-2010Based on the budget cuts Teller was given for next school year, Principal Jen Barton told the PTA that she needed $60k to ensure we were able to keep our class sizes small, keep all of our current teachers and still fund many of our valuable programs including Lindamood Bell, Reading Recovery, Challenge, Daily P.E., just to name a few. At the last CSC meeting, all of the parents present unanimously voted that we would commit this money for next year. As our school continues to grow in student and family population, we should be aiming to raise more money each year. This number of $60k, however, is not going to be a slam dunk for us. We desperately need all of our Teller Families to participate in our fundraising efforts. Teller is becoming a popular school to choice in to and we are turning families away because we don’t have enough slots available. Please help us make Teller the best elementary it can be by supporting all of our fundraisers.TOP 5 WAYS TO SUPPORT TELLER’S FUNDRAISING EFFORTS:1. Buy Grocery Certificates -> The easiest, cost-free way! King Soopers, Safeway & Sunflower Cards are available for purchase. $100 buys you a $100 gift card. When we purchase the gift cards we receive 5% off the price. The more you buy, the more we make. If you can get friends, family & neighbors outside of Teller to buy them, the more money we make that comes from outside our community. Grocery Certs are available for sale on Friday mornings before school and after school on the grounds. Also, Kaleidoscope parents can now buy them when picking their child up from KC on Friday afternoons from 4:30 to 6pm. And as always, you can buy them in the office anytime.2. Make a Recurring Monthly Donation Online -> Go to our Teller Store on-line. You can set up a monthly donation that will automatically come out of your account so you don’t even need to think about it. If 200 families donated $20/month for the upcoming year, we would raise over $46,000 after fees are paid out. 3. Support Tellerpalooza/Moreypalooza -> This is our biggest fundraiser of the year AND the most fun fundraiser. Save the date – MAY 16th – at the Mercury Café in Denver. This fundraiser brings in around $12,000 to our PTA. It’s a night of fun for the entire family. There will be local bands performing, along with food, drinks & lots of dancing for all. You can check out the updates at http://twitter.com/denverpalooza 4. Support April Wine Tasting Event -> Our second annual Teller Wine Tasting Event is in the planning stages right now. The Chair, Sarah Kinzer, needs more volunteers to help get this event on schedule for a Saturday evening in April. This event brought in over $3,000 last year for the PTA and was an absolute blast! It’s an adult only event – our only one of the year – so please help us make this year’s event even more successful than last year. Email Sarah at sekinzer@comcast.net if you can help out now. 5. Support Teller Night Out at Local Restaurants -> THANK YOU, everyone, who came to Bastien’s Steakhouse last week for Teller Night Out. Teller received a check for $227.10! Our next Night Out is at Steve’s Snapping Dogs on E. Colfax and Monroe on March 10th! Eat in or order take-out. Steve’s has the best dogs, hamburgers, sauteed green beans & lemonade around! 15% of all proceeds will go to Teller PTA. Bonus #6. Support Business Sponsorship Program -> Do you own your own business? Would you like to advertise and market your business while helping Teller with your tax-deductible donation? For as little as $100 you can join the Program. For only $1,000 you can become a Platinum Sponsor. Contact Brian Koenigberg at brian@koenigberg.com for more details. INTERESTED IN JOINING PTA BOARD FOR 2009-2010?We are now looking for interested parents to join the PTA Executive Board for next school year. Our Nominating Committee, Michele Foust and Roxanne Troxler, are in charge of presenting a slate of candidates at the March 2009 PTA Meeting. In addition to the President, VP, Secretary & Treasurer slots, we will also be adding Committee Chairs to the Board (Fundraising, Outreach, Social). Please talk with, email or call Michele or Roxanne if interested.UPCOMING EVENTSCSC Meeting – March 3PTA Meeting – March 19 Spring Break – March 23-27
